Goal

  • Understand and interact with published workbooks using extracts and published data sources.

Exercise

  1. Create and publish a view to Tableau Server using an extract.
    1. In Tableau Desktop, create a view using any data source
    2. Create an extract of the data source used
    3. Using the Admin user, publish the view to Tableau Server using the extract to the STARZ project
  2. Create and publish another view to Tableau Server using a published data source.
    1. In Tableau Desktop, connect to any data source
    2. Using the Admin user, publish this data source to Tableau Server
    3. Connect to the published data source from Tableau Desktop
    4. Create a view using the published data source
    5. Publish the view to the STARZ project on Tableau Server
  3. Access both of the published views via Tableau Server.
    1. Log in as User Bob and view the workbook. What happens?
    2. Log in as User John and view the workbook. What happens?
  4. Edit the permissions for Project STARZ.
    1. Configure User "Bob" with the role of Viewer
    2. Configure User "John" with the role of Interactor
  5. Repeat Step 3. What happens?
