Private training
A flexible, and more cost effective way to train your team by choosing the course and timing that suit your organization’s needs. Our certified instructors come to you – at your office or via a live, interactive virtual experience – and deliver the skills your team needs to be effective faster.
Get to know Private Training
With instructors and partner instructors across the globe, we deliver training specific to you and your colleagues’ needs.
Capacity
We allow a maximum of 14 students per private training. Tableau training is interactive, featuring many hands-on activities and a forum to ask questions. This maximum ensures that each student gets focused time with and support from the instructor, particularly in an online learning environment.
Purchase
If you are interested in purchasing private training, please review the course offerings, and then contact your Tableau account representative to help you determine what option may be best for you. If you do not know your Tableau account representative, please submit a case through Trailhead Help.
Training Materials
Tableau provides a manual, sample data sets, and practice workbooks for each student. We recommend that attendees download the sample data sets and practice workbooks to their desktops temporarily for easy access throughout the training. Your coordinator will provide the link(s) 1 week before your class is scheduled to begin.
Delivery
Tableau uses Webex to deliver all virtual training. If you are new to Webex, we are happy to provide assistance with a step-by-step guide. Upon request, instructors may concentrate on certain topics within our standard curriculum that would benefit your team; however, Tableau has put considerable effort into designing an effective agenda. As a result, we find it is best not to veer too far from the standard agenda.
Scheduling
Once you feel ready to schedule your private training, Your first step is to identify the training attendees. Next, you determine the training dates that work for everyone’s schedules. At this step, your training coordinator can assign an instructor and get your training scheduled. We offer full and partial-day formats to accommodate your needs.
- For partial-day training, scheduled days and times are listed below. Your team may expect “homework” assignments (up to 1 hour per day) if you select any partial-day format.
- For full-day options (two or three full days), you may choose the days that work for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the benefit of private training versus public training?
Both private training and public training are viable options for learning how to use Tableau. If you have a group of people who require training simultaneously, you may find that you can save time and money by choosing private training. Public training is purchased per person (i.e., by individual seat); whereas you purchase one private training to accommodate up to 15 of your colleagues.
Private training is delivered on your company’s version of Tableau software, compared to public training, which is delivered exclusively using the latest software release. Additionally, you get to choose the dates and times for private training.
How many students can be in a private training?
We allow a maximum of 15 students per private training. Tableau training is interactive, featuring many hands-on activities and a forum to ask questions. This maximum ensures that each student gets focused time with and support from the instructor, particularly in an online learning environment. If you have questions about our standard class size or need to accommodate a larger group, please reach out to your coordinator.
How do I purchase private training?
If you are interested in purchasing private training, please review the course offerings, and then contact your Tableau account representative to help you determine what option may be best for you. If you do not know your Tableau account representative, please submit a case through Trailhead Help.
How do I get in touch with a training coordinator to set up my private training?
After your order is processed, you will receive an email from your coordinator to initiate your booking. If you are not contacted within 2-3 business days after submitting your order, please submit a case through Trailhead Help
I’m ready to schedule my private training. Where do I begin?
Your first step is to identify the training attendees.
See scheduling details below.
- For full-day options (two or three full days), you may choose the days that work for you. See scheduling details below.
Are there breaks built into the virtual training schedule?
Full-day training includes a 60-minute lunch break as well as morning and afternoon breaks. Partial-day training includes 10-15-minute breaks to allow for any personal errands and a quick stretch. If you need to step away from your course at any time, you can privately message the instructor.
Is it possible to end my class early?
Yes! We understand that business hours need to be flexible, and our instructors can start and end class to better suit your team’s schedule. Please let your coordinator know your preferred schedule. Any requested changes to the standard timing may impact the content covered, and discounts are not provided for shorter sessions.
What are the prerequisites for my training?
You can locate suggested prerequisites for your training on our website. Tableau eLearning is a great resource to prepare for any training, with free and paid content to brush up or level up your skills. Please let your coordinator know if you have any specific questions as you prepare.
What are the requirements for hosting virtual training?
For all Tableau training, every participant will need:
- A computer (we recommend a dual monitor set up, a mouse, and a headset)
- Access to training materials (a link will be provided to you; see ‘materials’ section below)
- A steady internet connection
For Desktop training, every participant will also need Tableau Desktop software installed on their computer. Please verify that all software license or trial keys are active and will remain active for the duration of the class. If your key has expired, please notify your coordinator, and a temporary key will be provided.
For Server training, your coordinator will set up Virtual Machines (VMs) for every participant. All necessary software is included within the VM.
Is it possible to modify the agenda for my training?
Upon request, instructors may concentrate on certain topics within our standard curriculum that would benefit your team; however, Tableau has put considerable effort into designing an effective agenda. Our curriculum steps through activities in a particular order and at a specific pace with topics that build on each other, helping learners understand, practice, and commit to memory the most important concepts. As a result, we find it is best not to veer too far from the standard agenda.
May I use my company’s data in training?
We have found that students learn the concepts of Tableau concepts better if they are removed from the data they see and use every day. For those who seek the opportunity to work from their own data, we offer a 1-day Custom Data Workshop. This can be added to any other training to allow students to learn the product using standard training samples and then apply the concepts learned to their own data.
What training materials are provided?
Tableau provides a manual, sample data sets, and practice workbooks for each student. We recommend that attendees download the sample data sets and practice workbooks to their desktops temporarily for easy access throughout the training. Your coordinator will provide the link(s) 1 week before your class is scheduled to begin.
I haven’t received my verification email from Mimeo Digital. Where do I go for help?
Mimeo Digital is one of the platforms by which your training coordinator can distribute your online training materials. When you create an account on Mimeo Digital to access your materials, Mimeo will send a verification email to the email address used to set up the account. If you cannot locate this email in your inbox or clutter folder, you can try setting up an account with a personal email address if you are comfortable doing so. Alternatively, you can contact Mimeo customer service by clicking on the “chat” icon at the bottom right corner of the participant login page: mimeo.digital/login. Let the representative know that you have not received the email, and they will provide you with a verification link directly in the chat. If you do not see the chat icon on the participant login page, hold down your CTRL key (for Windows users) or shift key (for Mac users) and click the reload button on your web browser to conduct a hard refresh of the web page. You may need to whitelist the URL if that does not work.
May I record the virtual training?
To protect Tableau’s Intellectual Property, we’re not able to permit any training recording. Our training is designed for live instruction, and our curriculum is regularly updated to reflect the latest software features, functions, and educational best practices. We would be delighted to deliver another training in the future and discuss other educational tools to support your continued learning.
I don’t have a Tableau Desktop software license yet (or my free trial expired). Can I still schedule training?
Yes! We are happy to provide a temporary key for your class upon request. Please notify your coordinator.
My team uses multiple versions of Tableau Desktop software. Which version is best for training?
All attendees must use the same software version for training, as our materials are specific to the version being used and generally are not backward compatible.
We recommend using the latest version of our software used by your company, so the training is valuable, and the materials can be referenced well beyond your class. Please visit our website for downloads and release notes: tableau.com/support/releases.
Which online meeting software does Tableau use for virtual training?
Tableau uses Webex to deliver all virtual training. If you are new to Webex, we are happy to provide a step-by-step guide to help you connect and test from any device using your existing security settings. To note, it is not necessary to download any application or browser extension to successfully participate!
Is private training available globally?
Yes! We have Tableau instructors and Partner instructors located across the globe, and we encourage you to talk to your Tableau account representative about your particular needs. Training prices may vary internationally.
When is it possible to speak with the instructor?
The instructor will be copied on the confirmation email to all attendees one week before training is scheduled to begin. This is the same email that contains the training material and Webex information. At that time, we encourage you to reach out to your instructor to say hello and to confirm all attendees’ access to software (if applicable), access to materials, break times, and any other logistical details that will ensure a smooth and successful training.
What is the difference between a Tableau instructor and a Partner instructor?
Tableau has an exceptional network of Services Partners that work as an extension of Tableau staff. We utilize Partner instructors so that we can accommodate all of our customers' needs, and these instructors go through the same rigorous certification process as Tableau's own staff. We always welcome your feedback via our survey that is administered at the end of the training.
