Join Data + Women to kick off Tableau Conference Europe
Start your conference experience right—with inspiring, new connections
This summer, Tableau Conference Europe (TCE) heads to Berlin to bring together the most diverse data community on the continent. Regardless of your role or where you’re from, there’s something for everyone at TCE.
For many attending, it’ll be their first conference abroad—or ever!—and that can be daunting. If you’re flying solo or just worried about feeling out of place, there’s no better way to kick off your conference experience than to join the Data + Women (D+W) meetup!
Join D+W on Tuesday morning to meet and mingle with peers, hear stories with inspirational individuals, and make lasting connections. This event gives you the unique opportunity to start the conference with new professional contacts that can positively impact the rest of your TCE experience—starting with finding a buddy for the opening keynote that follows.
We are also showcasing some of the great work women do with Tableau—so if you’re planning to attend, please fill out this survey.
Learn about the impact of Data + Women groups across Europe
The Data + Women meetup is also a great way to learn more about D+W groups across the continent. We reached out to some rockstar women in the European D+W community to learn about how they got involved and the value they’ve seen from the networking, career growth, and personal relationships. (Some of us will be at TCE so we look forward to meeting you!)
A safe space — Natasha Kurakina, Insights and Reporting Partner (Facebook)
I first got involved with Data + Women in February 2017 as an admin volunteer for an event. My role has gradually grown to helping plan and host Data + Women meetups in London. For me, D+W is valuable because it gives me a safe space to have open conversations, to practice my own presentation skills as a speaker and trainer, and to learn new things without feeling embarrassed for having not known them before. I like that we’re able to discuss a broader range of topics around data, which complement the usual Tableau User Groups.
New opportunities — Louisa O'Brien, Consulting Analyst (The Information Lab)
In April, I attended a hands-on workshop hosted by Data + Women. At the time, I wasn’t feeling challenged in my work, but it was there that I learned about and then applied for my current role! Learning new things can be very hard on your own—especially after a long day at work, when most of us don’t have the fuel to focus on something new. Collaborative groups like D+W can provide that fuel: a dedicated time and place, understanding and supportive peers, and of course—much-needed enthusiasm! I have really enjoyed the mix of activities that D+W does—from the series about working with web data with APIs and Tableau Extensions, to data talks like the role of big data in modern dating.
Building bridges — Amanda Patist, Manager Data Analytics (adidas)
This year, I’ve helped to launch Data + Women in Amsterdam. Having been involved in London and attended events in the US, it’s awesome to grow the network across the continent. I’ve participated in all kinds of conversations via D+W—and that, in part, is the beauty of it. The meetups are particularly special when they give me the opportunity to meet people from around the world that I interact with online. The Tableau Community always astounds me—the inspiring and collaborative people always leave me reinvigorated and excited to start a new challenge.
Supportive, lifelong friends — Anna Ternovaya, Data Analyst (Receipt Bank)
In April, my husband and I moved to London. Outside my comfort zone, I started to follow meetup groups to better understand the job market and grow my network. The first meetup I went to was the same workshop as Louisa. I met amazing, supportive, and highly skilled people in the Data + Women community. All members are keen to share their knowledge and experience. I was inspired by the supportive atmosphere, quickly understood my key priorities, and found my first job in London in a short term. I met a lot of interesting people—some of them became my good friends!
Get involved at TCE and throughout the year
The Data + Women mission is simple: to promote and celebrate the success of women working in, with, and around data by giving them a platform to share their knowledge and experiences. You don’t have to be a woman to involved—we welcome all! And in fact, there are plenty of opportunities to connect with the Tableau Community and many ways you can participate at Conference (and throughout the rest of the year!) to help us on our mission:
- Join us for the D+W meetup at TCE. If you haven’t registered for TCE yet, grab your ticket before 5th April when the price increases. When you’re building your agenda in the mobile app, remember to add Tuesday morning’s event to your personal schedule.
- Share your story with our attendees. Fill out our survey and we’ll showcase some of the amazing people and the work they do with Tableau during the D+W meetup at TCE.
- Amplify women’s voices with our hashtag. Be sure to use #DataPlusWomen when you’re posting about any sessions you attend presented by women.
- Get involved with a local D+W user group! For the last three years in London, and more recently in Paris and Amsterdam, D+W has been an inclusive space for all. We’ve had women present about everything—from lessons learned while building web data connectors to inspirational talks on transitioning your career into data and analytics. We’d love to have you join us!
