Iron Viz 2022 Global Qualifier: Visualizing the Arts
The ultimate data showdown is back. We are calling on data rockstars (that’s you) from around the world to compete in our annual Iron Viz competition. No matter how long you’ve used Tableau, this is an opportunity to challenge yourself, learn something new, and engage with an incredible community.
Take your data skills to the next level. Build your Tableau Public portfolio. Get recognized on a global stage. Win up to $10,000 in cash prizes for yourself and donate to your favorite nonprofit while you’re at it. Visualizing the arts
For the global qualifier contest, we want you to viz about your favorite art form. Your data sets can be anything art-related—from traditional art like drawing and painting to photography, film, music, and dance. Show us what you are passionate about. Wondering how to find free, public data sets? Check out this blog post for some great tips and resources to aid in your search.
Step outside of your comfort zone and take the Iron Viz challenge. Go forth and viz to compete for global viz glory in Iron Viz 2022. Win or learn—you can’t lose.
Fame, glory, and prizes
If these prizes don’t motivate you, we don’t know what will.
The top 10 overall finishers in the qualifier contest will receive a $200 Tableau Store gift certificate to get their data swag on. The top 3 finalists will progress to the Iron Viz Championship, where the stakes get even higher:
- 1st place: $10,000 cash prize (!!!); $5,000 to a nonprofit of choice; and the Iron Viz Champion trophy
- 2nd place: $5,000 cash prize; and $2,000 to a nonprofit of choice
- 3rd place: $2,000 cash prize; and $1,000 to a nonprofit of choice
And the prestige of competing on the global Iron Viz stage? Priceless.
Data viz inspiration
Now you know about the challenge, the next thing to consider is what to viz. When looking for viz-piration, browsing Tableau Public—a free platform to explore, create, and publicly share data visualizations—is an excellent place to start. There are millions of vizzes to explore, covering numerous topics and data sets.
One global qualifier contest to rule them all
The global qualifying round starts now. Submit your art-themed data vizzes before February 7, 2022 (11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time) to compete in IronViz 2022. (Submissions in English only, please.) Iron Viz qualifier submissions are judged on analysis, design, and storytelling by a panel of esteemed Tableau Community judges. The three top scores from the qualifier round will advance to the Iron Viz Championship at the 2022 Tableau Conference.
Judging note: Judges cannot provide feedback on entries during the submission period. To ensure fairness, more than one judge will judge each entry, and the average score will be used.

The fine print
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to legal residents of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding Quebec), China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom or the United States who are validly registered users of Tableau Public, who have validly registered in the Contest, and who are at least the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry. “Contest Period” is from 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time (PT) on 01/10/2022 through 11:59 p.m PT. on 02/07/2022. To enter, during the Contest Period: (a) visit https://www.tableau.com/iron-viz and register as a contestant in the Contest; (b) properly download the Tableau software and connect to any free and publicly available data set; (c) produce and publish a Tableau Public data visualization; and (d) provide the URL of the visualization to Sponsor at https://www.tableau.com/iron-viz. Three winners will be scored based on the following judging criteria (a) Submission’s analysis of the Data Set (b) Design of Submission; and (c) storytelling of Submission from 02/11/2022 – 03/14/2022. Winners will each receive one digital conference registration to the 2022 Tableau Conference (ARV: up to $2,000); (b) gift certificate to the Tableau Store (ARV: $200); and (c) qualification to participate in the finals.
