Deliver results at Hyper speed with the new Hyper API
The all-new Hyper API helps make those bottlenecks a thing of the past by automating workflows to create and interact with .hyper files.
If you’ve struggled with custom ETL processes, you know that extract creation can be a bottleneck—especially in enterprises that are processing huge amounts of data. But there is light at the end of the ETL tunnel! The all-new Hyper API helps make those bottlenecks a thing of the past by automating workflows to create and interact with .hyper files. This is a major upgrade that gives developers the power to use full CRUD support at Hyper-speed and unleash the power of SQL to interact with .hyper files, even providing access to data sources for which Tableau does not provide a connector. Learn more and install the Hyper API. “Enterprises need to make data-driven decisions at the speed of business to stay relevant in today’s market,” said Ronen Schwartz, SVP and GM Cloud, Big Data and Data Integration, Informatica. “Impactful data-powered insights require agile, speedy and impactful data management solutions with specific application, file, DB and stream ingestion. We are excited about the new Tableau Hyper API, which we’ve seen deliver up to 11x faster data ingestion performance for our joint customers, enabling them to make informed decisions which power their data-driven digital transformations.” Key features of this upgrade:
- Automate ETL processes—e.g. implement rolling window updates or custom incremental updates
- Write programs to directly update data in extracts. This enables many use cases, such as: implementing custom incremental refresh for data from an IoT platform, enabling analysis of fresher data
- Retrieve data from .hyper files
Meeting the evolving needs of data workers, everywhere
Before today, customers and partners could only output data to extracts or write to it. For example, partner applications like Alteryx use the Hyper API to offer a “Publish to Tableau Data Extract” feature. However, once the data is in a Hyper file, they could not access the data anymore. With the new Hyper API, customers and partners can finally extend their applications to not only write data to but also read data from extracts. According to Ashley Kramer, senior vice president of product management at Alteryx, “As data remains the cornerstone of successful business transformation, it is increasingly imperative that we meet the evolving needs of data workers chartered with driving analytic outcomes across the enterprise. We are jointly addressing one of the most requested features from our customers, enabling users to increase the speed of writing .hyper extract files, use .hyper files as an input data source, augment and transform the data within Alteryx Designer, and output the data as a .hyper file for consumption in Tableau.” Want to explore more?
