Getting Started

We created this kit to help introduce the topic of data to young learners. Use all of it, or parts of it, and customize it to fit your needs. We recommend this content for kids ages 6-13. You will find the following in our Dropbox folder: 

1. Educator Kit Overview: this will help walk you through everything that is included
2. Icebreaker Activity: introduce data collecting with a fun game of tic-tac-toe!
3. Intro to Data Presentation: use this presentation as a guide for introducing data concepts. Add your own topics, take some away, make it your own.
4. Activity Guide: What are your favorite songs?: get hands on with data and the topics covered in the presentation. This guide will walk learners through collecting and visualizing data. There are two associated documents: the activity guide and an answer key.
5. Tableau Demonstration: we'll walk you through taking your data and putting it into Tableau Public to help answer questions about your data. 
6. Supplemental Materials: blank data grid for the activity, a sample dataset in Excel, and a blank Excel template.
