Let's Get Physical: Preparing Data in Text Files

The problems around cleaning and shaping text files are similar to structured relational data, but not identical. Many of the differences in text processing are a function of the physical attributes of text files: locality, formatting and context. These differences have significant impact on both user interaction design and computation efficiency. In this session, we will present our text preparation prototype called Wrasse, and discuss various solutions to the performance and UX challenges that arise when importing semi-structured text into the relational model.
