Helping you have a fast Tableau experience

To ensure you have a fast analytical experience, we’re making an update to our minimum hardware requirements. Starting with Tableau version 2020.4 that will be released near the end of 2020, Tableau products will require 64-bit Intel or AMD processors released in 2011 and later*. This change is for all Tableau products including Tableau Desktop Professional, Tableau Reader, Tableau Public, Tableau Bridge, Tableau Prep Builder, and Tableau Server.

Our product data indicates that over 99.6% of our product installations are already on hardware that meets the new requirement. If you are impacted, you can continue to use our 2020.3 and prior releases before transitioning to new hardware.

Why the change? A decade ago, Intel and AMD introduced additional instructions in their CPUs that can increase the performance of common tasks in Tableau, like viewing a visualization or interacting with a dashboard. We already leverage these chip instructions (when available) in certain scenarios, but by requiring these instructions, we can simplify our development process, to deliver new, high-performance capabilities to you faster.
