Tableau 9.3 beta is here
Say hello to Tableau 9.3 beta. Tableau 9.3 helps you analyze data and share findings faster, with powerful features like our Connected Desktop experience, Union, and our Snowflake Data Connector. Let’s take a look.
Flow
We prioritized sharing and collaboration in Tableau 9.3, and you’ll notice it as soon as you open Tableau Desktop. Tableau Desktop remembers your Tableau Online or Tableau Server connection and signs you into the last server you used. That means no more signing in every time you want to publish a dashboard. We’ve also improved the workbook publishing process, with Replace Data Source on Publish and other flow improvements. Now you can publish dashboards faster, with greater control over your data sources.
Self-service @ scale
Even the most brilliant dashboards lose their magic if they can’t be found. To find dazzling dashboards, Tableau Online and Tableau Server have smarter search. Search takes dashboard usage metrics into account; you’ll see more popular workbooks and views first. Plus when you hover over a workbook, a pop-up sparkline shows the number of views over time. Now you can see what’s hot and what’s not.
You don’t need to stress when your latest company sales dashboard breaks in the final days of the quarter. With Workbook Revision History, simply roll back to the previous version.
And for Tableau Server managers, we have new tools like Low Disk Space Monitoring and Automatic Extract Recreation. These tools help you be more proactive, freeing up valuable time so you can watch more cat videos…or solve strategic business problems.
Data
You asked and we listened. Union is here. With Union, you can combine data from Excel or a text-based data sources that have been split across multiple files or tables into a single Tableau data source. Also look for Create Groups and Bins and Join on Pivot Columns in the data grid in Tableau 9.3. Now you can get straight to your analysis instead of manually combining individual sheets. This was a hot topic on our Ideas forum, with more than 200 votes across two related ideas.
Tableau builds connectors to some of the newest and most innovative data products around. Now you can connect directly to Snowflake Elastic Data Warehouse with our Snowflake Data Connector. We’ve also improved our existing data connectors including Initial SQL Support, Salesforce.com OAuth support, and Kerberos authentication for Teradata and PostgresSQL. Our data connector investments ensure that you have high performing direct connections to your important data sources.
Fast & easy
The little things are important. With every release, we listen to your feedback, making small improvements across Tableau for a more delightful experience. Tableau 9.3 comes with forecasting enhancements, and common database drivers are now included in the primary Tableau Desktop installer to streamline the installation process. We’ve also made some important performance improvements including Single-Pane Optimization and Progressive Dashboard Loading.
When will Tableau 9.3 be out?
We have a timeline for getting Tableau 9.3 out the door, but we’d first like to get solid usage in beta and fix any bugs. We want your feedback as early as possible to catch any issues and ensure the new features are great. The features included in beta and in the final version of Tableau 9.3 may change over time as we get feedback from beta users.
Want to join the beta?
Check out our beta program to learn more and sign up. Not all functionality described above is available today. Some features will be added in the coming weeks. The beta program is available for existing Tableau customers. Customers with an active maintenance license can upgrade for free when Tableau 9.3 is released.
