Desktop | Connecting to Data
Goals
- Demonstrate the ability to connect to multiple different data sources from Tableau Desktop
- Understand the need for database drivers
Exercise
Connect to as many supported data connections from our list of internal reproduction databases as possible in a 2 hour window, starting with the list of connections below.
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Microsoft Analysis Services
- Oracle (directly)
- Oracle using TNSNames
- Teradata
- ODBC using a DSN
- Use a TDC customization to enable connection to an SSL enabled MySQL Server
It may be necessary to install database drivers from the Tableau Drivers & Activations page. Installing the correct database drivers on the computer running Tableau Desktop, allows Tableau Desktop to communicate with the corresponding database.
