Who is Tableau Agent for today and how does it help them?

Our mission at Tableau is to help everyone see, understand, and act on data. So when it comes to Tableau Agent, our vision is ultimately to help everyone, regardless of their skill level or experience, get more out of their experience with data and do so faster than ever before. Today, Tableau Agent helps new Tableau users kickstart their analytics journey with conversational AI.

We’ve all been newbies before. That’s how we get started. While Tableau is well known for its intuitive user experience and being easy to use, it still does take some time to learn how to effectively use Tableau or even the best visualizations to use for a certain situation.

Tableau Agent helps new Tableau users get started and get up to speed quickly in a number of ways. Maybe you are new to Tableau’s capabilities in data preparation and how to create calculations. With Tableau Agent, you can describe a calculation and have it write one for you. Or maybe you’re familiar with data visualization in other BI tools but not in Tableau. Within our Web Authoring Experience, Tableau Agent can help you create visualizations and calculations with conversation prompts, and automatically leverage best practices. When given a prompt, Tableau Agent understands the intent and automatically applies the most effective visualization. Further, users can easily go between manual drag and drop exploration and working with Tableau Agent for a truly self-paced and assisted exploratory experience.

But our vision for Tableau Agent goes beyond that. Our vision includes supporting and enhancing the experience for Tableau pros as well! And even people who are not in an analyst role but are data-savvy business managers.

How will we help everyone accelerate their data journey? 

Data Pros

Data pros already know the drill. They know how to curate the data they need, bringing data from several sources and joining them into a format that can be used for analysis. They understand the right visualizations to use to tell the right story. What they need help with is - getting there faster. They want to quickly be able to convert dashboards to more complex layouts. Or quickly adjust a color scheme to align to a broader template for their company. Or they just want to be able to do time-consuming tasks like creating complex calculations a little bit faster. Tableau Agent is a conversational assistant that can help you conserve one of your most limited resources - time. Freeing up time so that you can be even more creative, solve more problems, and address the needs of even more business stakeholders. 

Strategic Business Managers

But not everyone is a data pro. In fact, not everyone is an analyst either. Some people just need insights so that they can make decisions and move on with their day. Strategic managers are data savvy business users who understand the value of data, and being able to make informed, data-driven decisions. They don’t curate or build dashboards as part of their day to day jobs, but they need to consume insights from data to drive decision making.

These users can navigate the viewing experience and get answers to their specific data questions using natural language. Since Strategic Business Managers start their analytics journey from a dashboard or Pulse homepage, Data Pros are able to provide additional governance to the data. Now when these Business Managers ask this agent a question, they can trust that the information is accurate and correctly represented.
