FAQ
Starting with new releases 2021, Tableau will no longer produce new versions of Tableau Desktop Personal. As a replacement, Tableau is offering impacted customers Tableau Desktop Professional.
You can read more about this change in this blog post.
Tableau Desktop Personal was designed for customers who only require access to files (TDE, Excel, .CSV, etc.) for analysis with no need to publish content to Tableau Server or Tableau Online. With Tableau Desktop Professional, customers get all the functionality of Tableau Desktop Personal, plus the ability to connect to over 65 different data sources and easily collaborate with the ability to publish vizzes and dashboards to Tableau Server or Tableau Online.
As of June 4, 2019, a Tableau Desktop Professional key will be added to your customer portal and available to use immediately. Your next renewal will reflect Tableau Desktop Professional. If you are a subscription customer, your Personal key will no longer work after your renewal date. For perpetual customers, your key will continue to work but you will no longer be able to upgrade to newer versions after the maintenance expiration date.
Moving from perpetual to subscription gives you access to Tableau over a set period of time. Maintenance is included in the price of a subscription license, keeping you up-to-date and giving you access to Tableau’s ongoing product releases and support services at no additional cost.
For subscription customers: To continue using Tableau Desktop Professional after your expiration date, simply extend your Desktop Professional subscription.
For perpetual customers: To continue using Tableau Desktop Professional after your expiration date, simply extend your Desktop Professional subscription. We’ll honor your current Tableau Desktop Personal maintenance renewal rate for three years for the Professional asset(s) that were migrated from Personal.
While we are confident that you will be extremely satisfied with the additional capabilities Tableau Professional has to offer, there are a few alternative options available. One of which is to renew your Tableau Personal Desktop for a one year period (max), as long as it's done on or before June 30, 2020. If you choose to renew your existing contract, you’ll have access to new versions of Tableau Desktop Personal and technical support through your contract window. If you do choose to extend your Personal license, the Professional Subscription license will no longer be available in your portal.
Please reach out to your Customer Renewals Manager if you would like to discuss further.
