Internet Blackout: SOPA and PIPA Visualizations
Many popular websites have gone dark today - Wikipedia, Google, Firefox - to protest two bills about online piracy that may have a major impact on the internet. Where does your congress person stand? Check out these visualizations to see who and why.
The two bills, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) are generally supported by media and entertainment companies and opposed by tech companies. You can read about them here, here and here.
Propublica's viz shows which lawmakers support the bills as well as how much money they have received from media and internet companies. Look midway down the left navigation for the $Media and $Internet and $Difference buttons.
