What is Tableau Cloud Manager?
Earlier in my career, I was an admin for a massive e-commerce leader with an equally massive Tableau deployment. I loved the flexibility and manageability of Tableau Server, but I didn’t love managing updates and troubleshooting performance issues. A migration to Tableau Cloud would have eased those challenges, but at the time, Tableau Cloud had a single site limit. This reduced the flexibility and manageability of this deployment option, especially for Admins like me with a complex analytics environment.
I joined the Tableau product team to solve this problem. Now, I am excited to tell you how Tableau Cloud Manager helps you grow and manage your analytics deployment with greater flexibility and manageability in the Cloud!
What is Tableau Cloud Manager?
Tableau Cloud Manager is an enhancement to Tableau Cloud that allows customers to create and manage multiple Tableau sites with centralized management of licenses and users. Tableau Cloud Manager simplifies the expansion and administration of your cloud analytics environment, helps ensure you meet governance and data residency requirements, and introduces new administrative efficiencies.
In our new era of AI-powered insights for everyone, organizations looking to share data and analytics across regions and teams need an efficient way to grow and manage their deployments. Tableau Cloud Manager supports cloud sites across multiple regions and provides a robust management layer to simplify administration at scale.
Expand analytics across your organization with multiple Tableau Cloud sites
Tableau Cloud Manager enables Tableau Cloud customers to create and manage multiple sites in a single deployment. Additionally, Tableau Cloud Admins can deploy these sites in the regions of their choice. This functionality is particularly beneficial for global organizations with geographically dispersed teams. By allowing for the establishment of region-specific sites, Tableau Cloud Manager enables tailored analytics experiences that cater to the unique needs and compliance requirements of every team in your organization.
Site limits are determined by your Tableau Cloud edition:
- Tableau Cloud (standard): up to 3 sites
- Tableau Cloud Enterprise: up to 10 sites
- Tableau+: up to 50 sites
Effectively manage multi-site deployments
Tableau Cloud Manager acts as a layer atop your Tableau Cloud sites, offering centralized management features that help you scale your analytics operations. Customers who deploy multiple sites can manage sites and license users in one place, including granting users access to multiple sites without requiring distinct licenses for each site.
Note: We are currently migrating Tableau Cloud to Salesforce's Hyperforce cloud infrastructure, and not all regions have completed the migration (for updates on the timeline, visit our Help article). Since Tableau Cloud Manager allows for a single deployment to have Sites in different regions, it is possible that one or more of a deployment's sites might be migrated to Hyperforce before others.
Enhance governance with a new Cloud Admin role
Tableau Cloud Manager also introduces a new Cloud Admin role, a level above the traditional Site Admin. This allows for more flexibility in how your organization manages and governs your analytics environment based on your unique needs. A smaller organization may employ the same person as a Cloud Admin and also a Site Admin. For larger organizations, your Cloud Admin could be someone in IT using higher-level administrative capabilities to implement more control and coordination across your Tableau Cloud sites.
