Analytics Best Practices

A set of guidelines, standards and processes for the discovery, interpretation, and presentation of data.

Backgrounder jobs

Backgrounder jobs in Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud include extract refreshes, subscriptions, flow runs, and data-driven alerts.

Business Leader Steering Committee

A business leader steering committee is a governing body, consisting of executive sponsors set the vision for modern analytics in the organization.

Center of Excellence

A Center of Excellence (COE) refers to the group that manages Tableau on behalf of the broader organization. Responsibilities typically include managing processes defined in the Agility, Proficiency, Community, and Governance tracks of Tableau Blueprint.

Champion Group

A Champion Group is a user group for identified “Tableau Champions” in your organization.

Certification

Tableau product certifications enable users to prove their expertise and to distinguish themselves. These proctored exams are higher stakes than role badge skills assessments because they follow industry standards for professional certification programs.

Community

The Community workstream of Tableau Blueprint is focused on enabling user growth and evangelizing analytics through communications, engagement activities, and support.

Content Consumers

Content Consumers include everyone who uses Tableau to make data-driven decisions, including licensed Creators, Explorers, and Viewers.

Content Creators

Content Creators are anyone in your organization who connects to sources of data and crafts that data into something useful for themselves and others.

Content Governance (and associated topics)

Content governance involves the processes that keep content relevant and fresh. Associated topics include Authorization; Content Validation; Content Promotion; Content Certification; and Content Utilization.

Data Governance (and associated topics)

Data governance ensures that the right data is available to the right people in the organization, at the time they need it. Associated topics include Data Source Management; Data Quality; Enrichment and Preparation; Data Security; Metadata Management; and Monitoring and Management.

Enablement Intranet

An enablement intranet is a website or centralized location, serving as a hub for all Tableau resources.

Governance

Governance is the combination of controls, roles, and repeatable processes that creates trust and confidence in data and analytics.

Governance Steering Committee

The Governance Steering Committee approves Tableau governance processes, policies, guidelines, roles, and responsibilities for managing the organization’s data in compliance with business and/or regulatory requirements.

Proficiency

The Proficiency workstream of Tableau Blueprint is focused on user education, measuring adoption and engagement, and increasing data fluency within your organization through best practices.

Role Badges

Roles badges are awarded to individuals who pass a low-stakes, multiple-choice skills assessments of core concepts at the end of a role-based learning path.

Skill Belts

A skill belt program is an internally-created badge and reward program that aligns with an internally curated education program.

Tableau Champions

Tableau champions are the people in your organization who put at the center of every conversation and business decision and are motivated to develop their skills and support others by sharing their knowledge. A Tableau Champions program identifies and elevates these users, helping them realize their greatest potential while also enlisting them as leaders, teachers, and advocates of data culture in your organization’s community.

Tableau Environment

Tableau environment refers to your instance of Tableau regardless of where it is deployed: Tableau Server (on premises or in a public cloud) or Tableau Cloud.

Tableau Day (or Analytics Day)

A Tableau Day (otherwise known as an Analytics Summit or Analytics Day) helps raise the visibility of data and analytics within your company, highlight examples of how data has had transformation impact, teach users new skills, and more.
